Albarino (albar-EEN-yo) is native to Galicia in northwest Spain where it thrives in the cool, wet maritime climate: the nearby Atlantic Ocean imparts a signature saline note. One of the key white wine grapes of the Iberian Peninsula, it is prized for its natural palate-cleansing acidity, coastal brine and expressive fruit flavours, Albarino's popularity outside of Spain continues to grow as wine drinkers discover its freshness and versatility, and the grape is now gainging ground in coastal vineyards across California, Oregon and New Zealand. Expect to see a lot more from Albarino.
